My Pain Alert pain chart helps kids and adults communicate their pain level and medication needs using a visual scale
My Pain Alert pain chart is designed to use every day to ensure the comfort/wellness of kids and adults who struggle to communicate. Particularly for children and people with disabilities, communicating about pain intensity can be a difficult concept to communicate, particularly when they are upset and crying. Cancer, brain injury from accidents, neurological diagnoses and effects of other health conditions like hearing loss or vision impairment can also all make the task of communicating difficult when in pain. This unique picture pain scale card make it easier for parents, caregivers and health care providers to resolve pain quickly.
Why is this pain scale different?
My Pain Alert® picture pain scale chart was created by speech pathologist Gail Goldstein, CCC-SLP in response to her nonspeaking clients desire to communicate about their health and care needs. Simple, full body illustrations are easy to learn by kids as well as adults with dementia and cognitive difficulties. This handy two-sided card shows 5 pain levels using a picture of a boy experiencing belly pain. Each picture gives visual clues to a different intensity of pain by showing different facial expressions, posture, clothing, vocalization, background color, and a brief word description. The back side of the card shows the same levels but with print descriptions, types of pain and small to large dots to compare medication effects with earlier medication.
Each card is 5.5" x 8.5" and plastic coated so it can be easily wiped clean after use. Sold as a set of 2 double-sided cards to use at home and on health care visits.
